About Captain Pete Fill - Yankee Star

Since Captain Pete was old enough to hold a fishing pole, he has had a love for the sea. He knew from an early age he wanted to charter fishing boats. At age 14, Pete began taking adults and friends out on guided fishing trips. Captain Pete spent four years in the US Coast Guard stationed in Cape May, New Jersey, Miami, Florida, and New London, Connecticut, piloting search and rescue boats. During that time he was an instructor, teaching men how to handle boats as well as being a part of the security detail to President Nixon. He attained his Captain’s license at age 20, while in the service. The years with the US Coast Guard taught him navigation and boat handling skills, thus molding him into a dependable and vigilant charter boat captain.

Pete Fill is from Connecticut and moved down to Orange Beach, Ala. during the 1980’s. After fishing a series of Marlin Tournaments in the Bahamas, he sold his business in Connecticut and moved to south Alabama. He picked up a job running a sport fisherman and for the next few years traveling from New England to Mexico, the Caribbean and back to Gulf Shores.

From Maine to Mexico, Captain Pete has participated in a multitude of fishing tournaments. He won First International Swordfish Tournament (FIST) in 1969, out of Massachusetts, Niantic Offshore Invitational Tournament (NOIT), Niantic, Conn., in 1985 and came in second place in 1986. He won Niantic Shark Tournament, the Manasquan River Marlin and Tuna Tournament, Manasquan, New Jersey, in 1987- 1988. He also won the Mid-Atlantic Tournament, out of Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1988, catching a 788 lb. Blue Marlin. Captain Pete was featured on ESPN in 1987, fishing the ESPN Sailfish Tournament in Palm Springs, Florida. One of his last fishing tournaments was the Poco Bueno Tournament, in Port O’ Connor, Texas. He came in first place in 1990- 91 and placed second 1991-92 with Blue Marlin.

He has broken the state of Alabama fishing record with a 68 lb. Black Grouper, and broke the World Fishing record three times in one day with three, 30 lb. Pollock in Old Saber, Connecticut. In addition, Captain Pete is featured in the Internal Game Fishing Museum in Fort. Lauderdale, for his tournament achievements.

When asked what his favorite type of fish to catch is, he always replies "The ones that bring smiles to our customers faces".

Today Captain Pete enjoys spending his time with families and friends charter fishing in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Ala. He gets up every morning because he is addicted to life on the water and introducing others to the thrills of deep sea fishing. The deck hand of the Yankee Star works extremely hard because Captain Pete requires the best out of anyone who works for him. Captain Pete is a real character with unbeatable knowledge of the sea and how to fish it. There is no other Captain who can provide a deep sea fishing experience like Captain Pete and the Yankee Star charter boat.
